What a time! After the on-stage appearance of Bill Haley and the Comets, I had a cake delivered to the dressing room as a way to say thank you to the group for the great job they had done. For the two personal appearances in Rome New York at the Capitol Theater, they had the audiences in January, 1955 and May, 1955 in the palm of their hands. Great entertainers. Bill Haley went on to appear in a few Hollywood movies himself. What beautiful memories for the Mohawk Valley. Bill Haley appeared at the Capitol that January and returned by popular demand, in May 1955. People were dancing in the aisles! Bill Haley and the Comets were riding high at this time with the smash singles, "Rock Around the Clock" and "See You Later Alligator". There were turn away crowds at both personal appearances - both shows were booked by me. After the January, 1955 appearance of Bill Haley and the Comets at the Capitol Theater in Rome, I treated the group and friends to dinner at the famous Savoy Restaurant in downtown Rome, New York. The group, Bill Haley and the Comets, were very much impressed with the hosptiality of the warm hearted people of Rome, New York and the Mohawk Valley. This was the first of two appearances at the Capitol by this top act of the 1950's. It was the time of the sizzlin' hot, "Rock Around the Clock", featured on the credits of the movie, Blackboard Jungle. Another smash hit followed in "See You Later, Alligator". They were very nice, down-to-earth guys. Jimmy Dorsey Jimmy Dorsey, fabled band leader of the 30's, 40's and 50's. Jimmy is taking a cigrette break during his personal appearance with his brother Tommy Dorsey and the Dorsey Band appearing live on the stage of the Capitol Theatre in the early 1950's. The Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey appeared before a packed house at the Capitol Theater. The male person in the foreground was the comedian of the stage show whose first name was Artie. I was emcee of the stage show when the Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra appeared at the Capitol Theater.
